I recently took on a rental tour a wonderful couple from another state. They were relocating due into a local managerial position. They had a young child and the couple was probably in their upper 30's, close to my age. The couple and I spoke about websites, social networking and blogging. She engaged in online networking to connect with other stay at home moms in the area who brought their children to a play-gym activity center for infants, toddlers and preschoolers.
As I listened, I realized that the business owner clearly had it right. A major user of social media and blogging are stay at home moms. Here she attended the playgroups regularly with her son and connected to the moms and stayed atuned with the business' weekly special events through participating in their online community room, where she also returns several times per week.
What do we strive for from own community of online supporters? That they will find our writings "sticky" enough to keep them coming back. Hopefully they've learned something, they like our viewpoints, or they hope to engage with us in future business. But I have to admit, this business owner has herself a solid, willing group of moms for whom social networking online and in person is key to branding her business.
I really enjoyed what I learned from this couple and hope to work with more young families relocating to Keene, NH in the future. It's always nice to be able to share what I know of our community and of the many things there are for young families and stay at home moms to do with their children.
